It is crucial to assess the health of all children as they begin their schooling journey, ensuring a smooth transition and providing the best support during their formative years. To achieve this, we kindly ask all parents and caregivers to complete our online health questionnaire, which is part of the national Healthy Child Programme.

The questionnaire serves as a valuable tool for identifying any new or ongoing health needs that your child may have, which could require additional assistance. Following the completion of the questionnaire, our service will reach out to any child needing support.

Rest assured; all health-related information will be kept confidential. However, in certain situations—such as medical conditions requiring management at school (e.g., asthma)—this information may be shared on a need-to-know basis with relevant services, including the school, to enhance support for your child.

We offer the opportunity to weigh and measure your child in year reception and year 6, we will send you the information on how to opt out should you not wish to partake. Should your child be in the underweight range we offer advice and support and a re-measure, and should they be in the overweight range the Be Active Be Healthy team offer advice and fun activities to join and take part in for the whole family.

If you are concerned that your child is missing some of the conversations with you, you can contact us and book your child in to one of our hearing screening clinics. We offer a wide range of health promotion sessions to our primary and secondary schools. These are offered to specific year groups and either as a classroom face to face session or as a webinar. Topics include handwashing, relaxation, resilience, body image.

Your child’s school will inform you when we will be visiting to do a health promotion presentation, and you will be given the opportunity to consent to our session.

We frequently visit schools to provide health awareness training for staff on topics such as asthma, EpiPen usage, allergies, diabetes, and epilepsy. If your school would like to schedule one of these informative sessions, please reach out to our team to make a booking.

We offer all year 6 students the opportunity to complete our health assessment, the students receive an individualised health care plan depending on their responses and the school nurse may request to speak to the student to gain further clarity on their answers. The parents can opt out of this if they wish. The questionnaire is uploaded to the child’s health record.

When you reach Year 9, you will have the opportunity to complete a short health questionnaire, enabling you to express what health information you would like to know more about.

It helps us identify areas where students might require support and offers insights into both their physical and emotional health. The information gathered will be utilised to enhance school health services and promote the overall wellbeing of students.

An appointment with your school nurse or a member of the team could take place at the child’s school, at home, at a community centre or online, for example, via video call for our free online parent information sessions. It is important to think about what you would like out the appointment and to bring any helpful information e.g. hospital/GP letters etc.
